x2 + 3x - 4 = 0
= x2 + 4x - x - 4
= x(x + 4) - 1(x + 4)
= (x - 1)(x + 4)

So x = 1 or x = -4
Lets take a = 1, b = -4

So a2b4 = 1 x -44 = 256
b2a4 = 16 x 1 = 16

So the sum = 256 + 16 = 272
