if cells of onion peel and RBC are separately kept in hypotonic solution what among the following will take place?explain the reason for your answer.

If  an  onion  peel  is  kept  in  a  hypotonic  solution,  water  will  enter  the  cells  of  that  onion  peel  through  osmosis.

ie,  as  the  medium  of  water  outside  the  cell  is  more,  it  enters  into  the  cell  through  osmosis.  In  this  case,  the  cell  is  likely  to  swell  up.

The  same  thing  happens  to  Red  Blood  Cells  also.

 if the options are -
1 both the cells will swell

2 RBC will burst easily while cells of onion peel will resist the bursting to some extent

3 both 1 n 2

4 RBC and onion peel cells will behave similarly

then what will be tha answer n why .,,,,,,,, as not able to understand this ques properly

why does the skin of our finger shrink when you wash cloths fos long time?

  • -2

i dont know

i dont know jhgcgbhtx

THIS ANS GOES TO THAMIZHARASAN

Our skin of finger shrinks when we do the same, as when we wash the clothes the water around the fingers or hand behaves like hypertonic solution and water starts coming out from finger (cell) to out side region causing the fingers to shrink. This happens because of the process of osmosiswhen our skin comes in contact with water the water from our hand moves from our hand through the semi permeable membrane (skin). So our skin shrinks.

I know it all

Yup I know it all
  • -4
our skin starts to shrink due to osmosis. osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration. therefore our skin loses water and therefore shrinks.

changes in the cell if we keep it in hypotonic solution

(b) RBC will burst easily while cells of onion peel will resist the bursting to
some extent.
Though both the cells will swell up but his phenomena RBC will burst because excessive water will enter the RBC which the cell cannot withstand thus causing it to burst; this would not occur in the cells of the onion peel a

Sthey are able to withstand it.

Students you people should be more imaginative .... If onion peel and RBC is kept in hypotonic solution then they will swell ,at some extent due to osmosis (water will enter inside both cell to maintain equilibrium).but after sometime RBC will bust because it does not have cell wall, thus less turgor capacity... (c)a and b are correct Both will swell and rbc will burst
  • -4
Both cells will swell
Rbc will burst earlier than onion peel

Onion peel will become turgid and RBCs will swell up and may get burst
