If the sodium potassium pumps of a neuron fails after depolarisation, what immediate effect would this likely to have on neurons function?

Dear student,

If sodium-potassium pumps of a neuron fail after depolarization, the immediate effect observed in the functioning of the neuron will be that the sodium ions will be continuously added inside the neuron and potassium ion will not be able to move out of the neuron. Thus, the voltage will increase continuously above 40 mV and the depolarization state continues. No resting stage will be regained and membrane would not be able to transfer the nerve impulse to another nerve cell.
