x is the mean of n observations therefore $x = \frac{\sum_{i = 1}^{n} x_{i}}{n} \Rightarrow \sum_{i = 1}^{n} x_{i} = n x$ (1) then $\sum_{i = 1}^{n} (x_{i} - x) = \sum_{i = 1}^{n} x_{i} - \sum_{i = 1}^{n} x = n x - x \sum_{i = 1}^{n} 1 [u \sin g (1)] = n x - n x = 0$ hope this helps you
