Importance and need of by-election
Dear Student,
a. Election that takes place only for one constituency to fill the vacant seat caused by death or resignation of a member are referred as by-election.
b. By elections are important in a democracy to ensure that no seat is vacant and that the representative so is elected timely, from a particular constituency
c. It is important for the party in power to maintain its numerical strength in the House.
d. It also gives an opportunity to the opposition party to regain its numbers and counter the growing influence of the ruling party.
