Potential difference between two points A and B is equal to the work done in bringing a unit charge from A to B.
The work done in bringing a q = 5 C charge from point A to point B maintained at a potential difference ($V_B-V_A=V$) is given by:
$$\begin{gathered} W=q\left(V_B-V_A\right)=qV=40 J \\ V=\frac{W}{q}=\frac{40}{5}=8 Volts \end{gathered}$$
