In an examination, 96% of the candidates passed and 50 failed. How many candidates appeared?

@dhruvsanadi: Good effort! Keep posting!

Let the number of candidates who appeared in the examination be n.

Percentage of candidates passing in the examination = 96%

∴ Percentage of candidates failing in the examination = 100% – 96% = 4%

Given, Number of candidates failing in examination = 50

∴ 4% of n = 50

Thus, the number of candidates who appeared in the examination is 1250.
