In some plants like desert plants , epidermis has a thick waxy coating of cutin on its outer surface .can we think reason for this?

Solution:

The plants growing in dry and arid environments, like in deserts, are called xerophytes. Xerophytic plants have adaptations that allow them to minimize the loss of water due to transpiration because of an scarcity of water. Therefore, some xerophytes have their leaves reduced into spines (like cactus), sunken stomata to avoid direct sunlight, and the presence of a thick waxy coating made up of cutin on their epidermis. These adaptations ensure minimal loss of water.
