Is benzene an alkane, alkene or alkyene?

Dear Student,

Benzene is neither alkane, alkene nor alkyne.

Benzene is best described as an aromatic compound. Due to delocalization of six pi-electrons in benzene, it shows aromaticity.

If it would be an alkene, it should undergo addition reactions and should show characteristic behavior of alkenes. But benzene is highly stable compound and does not give addition reactions.

Benzene is not an alkyne as there is no triple bond in it. Hope you got the answer!

an alkene

look at de suffix of benzene

its is ene that implies it is an alkene

  • -1

if de suffix is ane, it is an alkane

if it is ene, it will b an alkene and

if it is yne, then it belongs to alkynes

hpe it hlps

thmbs up  cheers

  • -2

 its alkene.

its actually "cyclohexa-1,3,5-triene"

hope it helps!!

cheers!!!

But the formula for alkene is CnH2n and it does not satisfy benzene(C6H6)
