Is the following statement correct? If it is wrong ,correct the statement. Statement: "unicellular organisms do not respire, only multicellular organisms respire "

Dear student,

No, the statement is wrong.
Both unicellular and multicellular organisms respire.
Cellular respiration takes place in each and every living cell. The mechanism of 'breathing' in unicellular organisms is different from multi-cellular organisms. Single celled organisms like Amoeba, Paramecium etc. respire within their cell. Instead of the actual process of breathing, oxygen simply enters in their bodies by simple diffusion. They don't have any breathing system. On the other hand, the process of respiration in multicellular organisms is much more complex.

Regards.
