Like Jammu and Kashmir, which other states in India are given special status and what is the special status Please mention at least one completely.(but apart from J and K).

Dear Student,

a. India is an example of holding together federation where the country decided to create constituent units and divide powers between the centre and the states.
b. India emerged independent under extremely difficult circumstances, the Partition of the country on religious lines followed by a wake communal riots, violence necessitated the need for a strong centre. Thus, even though there was a consensus on having a federation in looking into the size of the country and its diverse aspects, there was a realisation that a strong centre was imperative to prevent the disintegration of the country.
c. Centre is more powerful making states dependent on them for resources, The distribution of powers by the constitution between the Centre and states is unequal, Centre has more powers and important areas of jurisdiction within it purview. For example the union list containing more subjects and important subjects like defence, foreign affairs.
d. Even the constituent units  have unequal powers , like some states may be granted special status like Jammu and Kashmir, under Article 370 of the constitution
 e.  Being a disputed region, There are many provisions of the Indian constitution which can only be applied provided they are ratified by Jammu and Kashmir's assembly. The state has its own constitution,  its own law on citizenship.
i.  Besides that, North eastern states,  Himachal Pradesh and  Utthrakhand  are under special category states as these states have hilly terrain, have international borders thus they get special economic assistance from the centre in terms of grants
j.These states have been characterised by economic and infrastructure backwardness and underdevelopment

 k. Thus, we may say, that in India, there is unequal division of power and they rather do not have identical powers
