Mention two ways in which food gets oxidized in organisms.

Dear student, food (glucose) gets oxidized in the organisms to produce energy in the following 2 ways- (1) Anaerobic respiration - it occurs in the absence of oxygen in which the glucose is broken down into an 3 carbon compound called as pyruvate. It takes place in the cytoplasm. The formed pyruvic acid is broken down into the ethanol and carbon dioxide. (2) Aerobic respiration - in the presence of oxygen the glucose molecules are broken down into the pyruvate which is further broken down into the 3 molecules of the carbon dioxide and water. Regards

1) Anaerobic respiration:

Here the first step is the break-down of glucose into a three-carbon molecule called pyruvate. This process takes place in the cytoplasm. Further, the pyruvate may be converted into ethanol and carbon dioxide. This process takes place in yeast.

2) Aerobic respiration :

During aerobic respiration, first glucose is broken down into pyruvate and then  the three-carbon pyruvate molecule is broken down to give three molecules of carbon dioxide and water.

Hope This Helps You :)
