Name one source and one harmful effect of each of the following air pollutants-
Sulphur dioxide
Oxides of nitrogen
Carbon monoxide
Chloro fluro carbons

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

Carbon monoxide: Carbon Monoxide (CO) is very harmful gas as its increased level displaces the level of oxygen gas within the blood by binding stronger bonds with the Fe-atom of hemoglobin molecule in the body. This happens because the CO-gas has more affinity with Iron than the Oxygen gas. This lack of oxygen causes anoxia and a damage to memory, brain function, behavior and cognition.
It is released from the combustion of fuels like gasoline, kerosene etc.

Chlorofluorocarbon: Chlorofluorocarbon is one of the chemical substances responsible for the depletion of ozone layer. In absence of ozone layer, the earth cannot be protected by harmful radiation of sun (UV rays). These UV radiations are actually responsible for causing skin cancer. Thus, not directly but indirectly chlorofluorocarbon causes skin cancer.
It is released from air conditioners, Refrigerators etc.

Sulphur dioxide: Sulphur dioxide at physiological pH enters the leaves of plants and produces HSO-and SO32- which reduces the oxygen evolution from chloroplasts and thus inhibits the photosynthesis. Sulphur dioxide can also cause acid rain.
It is released from the combustion of fossil fuels.
