Ant stings have the methanoic acid(HCOOH-formic acid)). A person suffering from the ant sting is given baking soda on the sting. As the baking soda is alkaline in nature, it neutralises the acid from the sting and forms a neutral salt.

 The acid present in ant sting is methanoic acid (formic acid). The chemical formula is HCOOH. To get relief one should apply any available basic salt  e.g., baking soda (NaHCO3) on it.
