name the Asexual reproductive structure in Penicillium

Dear Student,

Asexual reproductive structure in Penicillium is Conidiophore. Conidiophore is long, erect and septate hyphae which bears non-motile, exogenous asexual spores known as conidia. Conidiophores grow upward i.e., negatively geotropic and singly arise from any cell of mycelium. The conidium on conidiophore is arranged in basigenous manner i.e., oldest conidium lies away from the tip while youngest just next to it. These conidia shed after maturation and dispersed in air current. These conidia under suitable conditions and on suitable substratum germinate to give new mycelium.

Hope it helps you!
Thanks and Regards.
