ninth grade we had studied that power is work done by time. Then why is it so that in electricity we consider energy equal to power into time. Isnt energy the capacity to do work while work is the transfer of energy?

What you think about them is correct but physical significance of both energy and work done is same. They both are represented by same unit and in other words they are same only. Work is done by energy only or in other terms energy helps in work done.
