Variations that confer an advantage to an individual organism make it fit to the changes in the environment. The organism will be naturally selected and will be continued in the population. But sometimes accidental killing of organisms with one kind of trait leads to survival of individuals with other kind of traits. This Genetic drift produces variations without any adaptations.
