Paste a photocopy of electric bill of your home and calculate the energy consumption shown in it.

Dear Student,

Please provide the readings of your meter or your electric bill. So that, we could calculate the energy consumption.

For example:
Let's consider there are
(i) Five 60 W bulbs for 6 hrs a day for 30 days.
(ii) Two 1000 W heaters for 2 hrs a day for 30 days.
(iii)  A 100 W refrigerator for 24 hrs a day for 30 days.
(iv) A 100 W refrigerator for 24 hrs a day for 30 days.
(v) A 1100 W oven for 3 hrs a day for 30 days.

Energy consumed = Power Х Time

1.  Five 60 W bulbs for 6 hrs a day for 30 days.
Power of five 60W bulbs = 5 Х 60 = 300 W
Time for which the bulbs were used = (6 Х 30) hrs = 180 hrs
Energy consumed = 300 Х 180 = 54000 Wh = 54 KWh

2.  Two 1000 W heaters for 2 hrs a day for 30 days.
Power of two 1000W heaters = 2 Х 1000 = 2000 W
Time for which the heaters were used = (2 Х 30) hrs = 60 hrs
Energy consumed = 2000 Х 60 = 120000 Wh = 120 KWh

3.  A 750 W electric iron for 2 hrs a day for 30 days.
Time for which the iron was used = (2 Х 30) hrs = 60 hrs
Energy consumed = 750 Х 60 = 45000 Wh = 45 KWh

4.  A 100 W refrigerator for 24 hrs a day for 30 days.
Time for which the refrigerator was used = (24 Х 30) hrs = 720 hrs
Energy consumed = 100 Х 720 = 72000 Wh = 72 KWh

5.  A 1100 W oven for 3 hrs a day for 30 days.
Time for which the oven was used = (3 Х 30) hrs = 90 hrs
Energy consumed = 1100 Х 30 = 33000 Wh = 33 KWh

Total energy consumed by all the appliances = (54 + 120 + 45 + 72 + 33) = 324 KWh
