(a) The maximum number of electrons that can be accommodated in any shell is given by the formula 2n2
M shell has an n= 3


So, 2n2 = 2 (3)2 = 18 electrons

(b) The distribution of electrons in sodium atoms is 2,8,1 since it has 11 electrons.
K has 2 electrons
L has 8 electrons
M has 1 electron

(c) K can accommodate 2 electrons and L can accommodate maximum of 8 electrons, if both the shell are full, so total number of electrons = 2 + 8 = 10 electrons
