Please explain the idiom beat around the bush

Dear student,

'Beat about the bush' means to discuss a matter without coming to the main point. It is often done intentionally to avoid talking about something unpleasant or difficult. For example: The boy beat about the bush while explaining his poor result to his father. His father told him to quit beating about the bush and accept his laziness as the reason for his poor marks.
