Q 1. Define Magnetic field and write its properties.

Dear Student,

Just as static charges produce an electric field, the currents or moving charges also produce a magnetic field, denoted by B (r), which is a vector field.

Magnetic field can simply be defined as the influence exerted by a magnetic material or moving charges comprising electric currents in a region around it, within which a magnetic force exists that can be experienced by other magnetic materials. Magnetic field can be thought of as forming imaginary closed loops around a magnet oriented from north pole to south pole.

It has several basic properties identical to the electric field.
These are its properties :- 1. They always form closed loops. 2. No two magnetic lines intersect. 3. Outside they seems to travel from north to south and inside south to north. 4. They leave NORTH pole and enter SOUTH pole normally. 5. It is vector quantity. 6. The magnetic field lines are crowded near the pole where the field is strong and far from the magnet where the field is weak. 7. In case the field lines are parallel and equidistant, they represent a uniform magnetic field.
