Dear Student,

Burning of methane:
CH4 + 2O2  CO2 + 2H2O

According to the reaction,
For complete burning 1 volume of methane, 2 volumes of Oxygen is required.
Hence, for burning 10 cm3 of methane, 20 cm3 of oxygen is required.
Since, air contains 20% of oxygen. So 100 cm3 of air will be required containing 20 cm3 of oxygen.

Burning of acetylene:
C2H2 + 52O2  2CO2 + H2O

According to the reaction,
For complete burning 1 volume of acetylene, 5/2 volumes of Oxygen is required.
Hence, for burning 10 cm3 of acetylene, 52×10 = 25 cm3 of oxygen is required.
Since, air contains 20% of oxygen.
So, 20 cm3 oxygen is present in 100 cm3
Therefore, 25 cm3 oxygen will be present in 10020×25 = 125 cm3
Hence, 125 cm3 of air will be required containing 25 cm3 of oxygen

Therefore, total amount of air = 100+125=225 cm3
