Pls explain the answer

Dear student,

A single gene controls the synthesis of starch in pea plants. The alleles B and b are used to represent it. The heterozygous genotype of this trait shows incomplete dominance, i.e., both alleles of a gene at a locus are expressed partially.

Thus,
BB- Large-sized starch grain
bb- Small-sized starch grain
Bb- Intermediate-sized starch grain

When a garden pea plant with intermediate size starch grains in the seed is crossed with other plants having small size starch grains in seed-

  b b
B Bb Bb
b bb bb

Thus, 50% of the offspring will be having intermediate-size starch grains in the seed, and 50% of the offspring will be having small size starch grains in the seed.

As given, the total number of seeds obtained is 120.

Thus, 60 will be having intermediate (Bb) size starch grains in the seed, and 60 will be having small (bb) size starch grains in the seed.

Therefore, the correct option is (3).

Regards,
