Dear student,
There are five classifications of bodies of water:
Oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and canals.
1-There are 5 oceans: Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern. They are salt water and cover 2/3 of the earth’s surface.
2- Seas are salt water and surrounded by land. Examples of seas include the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
3-Lakes are the fresh water bodies , sometimes saline as well and are located inland. Example of a lake would be any of the Great Lakes such as Lake Michigan.
4-Rivers are a moving body of water that moves from higher elevations to lower. Examples include the Nile and Amazon rivers.
5- Finally, canals are always man-made and connect bodies of water. Examples include the Suez canal and the Panama canal.
