Q. While calculating the equivalent resistance between A & B, why will $R_1$ not come into play?

Dear student,
This is because the circuit generated will be Wheatstone bridge type so the basic principle will be applied here also.
When we consider resistance along A and B then the resistor R₁  will come across the bridge and hence no current will flow across it.
