1a) The pressure at a certain depth in sea water is more than that at the same depth in river water because pressure at a certain height is directly to the density of the medium.

Salt water has higher density than fresh river water due to the dissolved salts (NaCl) in sea water. This is the reason why for the same depth sea water exerts more pressure than that by the river water.
