prove that the longest chord in a circle is nearer to the diameter.


Here the circle with center O and radius r has diameter AB.EP is a chord in the circle.ORP is a right triangle.so from pythagoras theoram OR2+RE2 =OE2OR2+RE2  =r2so for a chord nearer to the circle, OR should be a should be less.so it should be nearer to the diameter.and towards the diameter the length of the chord increases,so the longest chord is nearest to the diameter, other than diameter( as diameter is a chord also.)
