The odd jobs undertaken by the two boys were selling newspapers, selling fruits, being a guide for the tourists and doing every small work that they could lay their hands on.

9.
The two boys avoid sharing their plans with the narrator. It shows the intimacy shared within the family and how they were unwilling to let out the details regarding the family to strangers. It also shows that they did not seek any sympathy from others and only wanted to help themselves by working hard.

10.
The narrator drove the young boys’ up to the country, Poleta 30 kilometres away. This shows that the narrator is helpful in nature, and also that he did not wish to disappoint the boys by saying no.

17. The two young boys appear as gentlemen who are willing to take any task in hand. They do not resort to any shortcuts. On the other hand, they work hard to earn their living. They are not cunning.
