Q.  In this case the scale chosen on y axis is 3 units and on x axis 1 unit. now lets say if the coordinates are not given to us and we are to find them then should we do it like this: Distance of point p from x axis is 1 unit so the y coordinate is 1 or we should do it according to the scale like this: distance of point p from x axis according to the scale is 3 units so y coordinate is 3?

Dear Student,

In this question, the distance of point P from the x-axis is 3 units, that's why it's y-coordinate is 3. If the scale on the y-axis was 1 unit only, then point P would be 3 units above the origin, as its coordinates are (0,3). But because here the scale is 3 units on the y-axis, and point P is one unit above the origin, the y-coordinate of point P is (1×3=)3, as according to the scale, and not 1.
