Q. Solve:
a) 0.4x + 3y = 1.2
7x - 2y = 17/6
b) 3x - 4y = 1
2x - 8/3y = -5
a)
0.4x + 3y = 1.2 .... (1)
Multiply equation (1) with 4, we get
(0.4x + 3y = 1.2) × 4
1.6 x + 12y = 4.8 ... (3)
On adding (2) and (3), we get
42x - 12y + 1.6 x + 12y = 17 + 4.8
⇒ 43.6x = 21.8
⇒ x = 1/2
On putting value of x in (2), we get
b)
3x - 4y = 1 ... (4)
On multiplying equation (4) with 2, we get
(3x - 4y = 1) × 2
⇒ 6x - 8y = 2 .... (6)
In the equation (5) and (6), the coefficient of both x and y are same. So, it isn't possible to find the values of x and y.
