a) 0 4x + 3y = 1 2 (1) $7 x - 2 y = \frac{17}{6} \Rightarrow 42 x - 12 y = 17 (2)$ Multiply equation (1) with 4, we get (0 4x + 3y = 1 2) Ã— 4 1 6 x + 12y = 4 8 (3) On adding (2) and (3), we get 42x - 12y + 1 6 x + 12y = 17 + 4 8 â‡’ 43 6x = 21 8 â‡’ x = 1/2 On putting value of x in (2), we get $42 \times \frac{1}{2} - 12 y = 17 \Rightarrow 21 - 12 y = 17 \Rightarrow 12 y = 4 \Rightarrow y = \frac{1}{3}$ b) 3x - 4y = 1 (4) $2 x - \frac{8}{3} y = - 5 \Rightarrow 6 x - 8 y = - 15 (5)$ On multiplying equation (4) with 2, we get (3x - 4y = 1) Ã— 2 â‡’ 6x - 8y = 2 (6) In the equation (5) and (6), the coefficient of both x and y are same So, it isn't possible to find the values of x and y Please recheck it
