Q. Why does hot water deform plastic bottles?

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

2. Fibre-filled quilts are made up of synthetic fibres. Fibres are long filamentous-like structures that can be rolled together to form threads. Cotton quilts are made from cotton which is a plant material.

Advantages of fibre quilts over cotton quilts:
1. They are cheap as these fibres are produced synthetically and are not obtained from animals or plants.
2. They are more warm and hence, are more suitable.

Disadvantages of fibre quilts over cotton quilts:
1. They can catch fire easily.
2. They can be suffocating sometimes. It can stick to perspiring skin.

3. Hot water gives heat to the plastic bottle. When plastic bottle given heat the molecules inside it becomes loosely packed due to heat. This is why the bottle deforms and becomes bigger on pouring of hot water.
