Q19.
Answer key shows: height of tower = 118.25 m
But my answer comes out to be 118.49 m.
Will my marks be deducted in boards if my answer is just 0.24 m wrong?

19. The angle of depression of the top and bottom of a 50 m high building from the top of a tower are 45o and 60o respectively. Find the height of the tower and the horizontal distance between the tower and the building. (Use  3 =1.73

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

From given information we form our diagram , As :

Here , Height of building = AD  = 50 m  , From diagram we get :  AD =  BE = 50 m

And

Height of tower =  BC

And , Horizontal distance between tower and building = AB = DE

We know : tan θ = OppositeAdjacent , So

In triangle DEC we get :

tan EDC = ECDEtan 45° = ECABWe know : We know : tan 45° =1AB = EC              --- (1)

And in triangle ABC we get :

tan  BAC = BCABtan 60° = BE + ECABWe know : tan 60° =3 and from equation 1 we get : 3 = 50 +ABABAB3 = 50 +ABAB 3 - AB = 50AB 3 -1 = 50Given : 3 = 1.73 , So AB 1.73 -1 = 50AB 0.73= 50AB = 50 0.73AB =68.49
So,
Horizontal distance between tower and building = 68.49 m

And

Height of tower = BC =  BE + EC  =  BE + AB  =  50 + 68.49 = 118.49 m

So, answer provided by you is absolutely correct for given query , May be there is printing mistake on the answer key .

Did u use root 3 as 1.73 exactly or u took it as just 1.7

Yes marks will be deducted because they will correct as per answer key
  • -1
If you are given to write value of root3 as 1.73 then u should write that only.... but again it depends upon teacher who checks the sheet .may be he will not deduce becozz of small reason

Friends this is what I did...
Took root 3 as 1.73...

For small differences they wont cut marks unless the value of root 3 is given
