Q8. A square loop of side 20 cm carrying current of 1A is kept near an infinte long staright wire carrying a current of 2A in the same plane as shown in figure.
Calculate the magnitude and direction of the net force exerted on the loop due to the current carrying conductor.

Dear student
Force on the two wires which lie perpendicular to the infinite current carrying wire are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction so they cancel each other.Force on the wire which is closer to  parallel to the infinitely long wire is towards the long wire and its magnitude isF1=B1×i×l=B1×1×0.2 NForce on the wire which is away from parallel to the infinitely long wire is away from  the long wire and its magnitude isF2=B2×i×l=B2×1×0.2 NNet force isFnet=F1-F2=B1×1×0.2-B2×1×0.2=0.2×(B1-B2)B1=μ4πid1×2=10-7×20.1×2=40×10-7and B2=μ4πid2×2=10-7×20.3×2=403×10-7Fnet=0.2×(40×10-7-403×10-7)Fnet=0.2×10-7×40×(1-13)Fnet=10-7×8×(1-13)=2×8×10-73=5.33×10-7 NRegards
