1. Rani wanted to plate an iron spoon with copper. She took copper sulphate as electrolyte. She connected the spoon with the positive terminal of the cell and the copper plate to the negative terminal. She closed the circuit and found no change. What went wrong? Explain.

Dear student!

The set up of the electrode connection was wrong, as iron should be connected to negative electrode (i.e. battery end) and the copper should be connected to the positive end(switch end).

In simple way, while electroplating of copper over iron spoon, iron should be cathode(-ve) and copper should be anode(+ve).

Since, the system was reversed so the result was not obtained.
