should we boil a leaf in isopropyl solution (rubbing alcohol) to extract chlorophyll or just leave it in the alcohol? pls tell. if we need to boil the leaf in alcohol, what is the amount of time we should boil it?

Dear Student,

The safest way to extract chlorophyll is as follows-
  1. Boil 2 cups water in a medium-sized pot.
  2. Set your leaf in it for two minutes at a high temperature.
  3. Turn off the flame, and take the leaf out carefully into a high-quality glass beaker containing 1 cup of rubbing alcohol.
  4. Put the beaker containing leaf in the middle of the pot of hot water.
  5. Ensure the leaf is dipped in the rubbing alcohol.
  6. You'll see green rubbing alcohol within one hour; the green colour is due to chlorophyll.

Perform this experiment only in the presence of your instructor.
