(a) (i) State an approximate value for the speed of sound in air.
(ii) Sound travels at 5000 m/s in steel. calculate the time it takes for the sound travel along the rail .

(a) Speed of sound in air is 343 m/s.
(b) Speed of sound in steel is 5000 m/s. Distance it needs to travel is 300 m
So time taken by sound to travel rail is
t = distance /speed = 300/5000 = 0.06 s
