Q. How does the stem help in transportation of water  and minerals ?
Q. What is stem called a two-way street ?

Dear Student.
Please find below the solution to the asked query.

Stem posses vascular tissues, which are known as conducting tissues. Vascular tissue consists of Xylem and Phloem. Xylem helps in the transports of water & minerals by forming a network of channels that connects the root to the stem and the leaves of the plant. Thus stem helps in the transport of water and minerals.

For second question:

The stem of a plant transports water and mineral salts in upward direction from roots to the leaves. At the same time the stem transports glucose in downward direction from the leaves to other parts of the plants. As stems regulate materials in both ways inside a plant it is considered as a street with vehicles moving in both the ways.

Plants absorb nutrients and water through their roots, but photosynthesis — the process by which plants create their fuel — occurs in the leaves. Therefore, plants need to get fluids and nutrients from the ground up through their stems to their parts that are above ground level.

Just as animals, plants also contain vascular tissues (xylem), which transports water and minerals up from the roots to the leaves, and phloem, which transports sugar molecules, amino acids, and hormones both up and down through the plant.

The leaves of plants also contain veins, through which nutrients and hormones travel to reach the cells throughout the leaf. Veins are easy to see some leaves (a maple tree, for instance). In some plants the veins are hard to see, but they're in there.
stem connects the root and leaves.Similarly it transports water and mineral salts from the roots to the leaves so that they can perform photosynthesis. In the same way manufactured food from the leaves to other parts of the plant.this is easy for the stem because it bears the whole shoot system and it has nodes from which the leaves arise

1.stem is like a straw. its work is to supply water.
2. with the help of stem water can be supplied. so it is called 2 way street.
