Take a used soft drink glass.Fill it completely with water and keep it on the floor. Make three holes using a pin along the height of the glass, one near bottom, other near top,and the third in the middle of the glass. Observe the water coming out from the three different holes. What is the observation then?

Solution,
The water coming out from the point near the bottom will have the highest efflux velocity and hence will have the highest range. The middle one will have a lower efflux velocity and hence lower range and the water coming out of the top most hole will have the lowest efflux velocity and range, i.e., the water from the hole will fall to a point closest to the bottle.
This is because water at a height closest to the bottom of the glass will have the highest water pressure due do the volume of the water above it. As the height of the hole increases, less water volume lies about that height and hence the water pressure is less, thus the efflux velocity is less which further leads to lower range.
