The area of a triangle is 480 cm2. If two of its sides are 48 cm and 52 cm, find the third side.

By observation ,we find that the two sides of the triangle mentioned along with the third unknown side form a pythagorean triplet
Let the given triangle be a right angled triangle with 48 cm be on of the arms of right angle 52 be the hypotenuse.
Let the length of the third side be x
Hence
12×x×48 cm =480 cm2x = 480 cm2×248 cm =20 cm

Now we can also verify that our observation was correct as (20,48,52) forms a pythagorean triplet with 52 being the largest.
