The direction of magnetic field at a point is the direction of the resultant force acting on a hypothetical north pole placed at that point. Explain it in simple words.

Dear student,

Hypothetical means :not exist in reality but we imagine.
We know direction of magnetic field is always away from the north pole i.e magnetic field always comes out from the north pole. so at the particular point , if we want to know the direction of magnetic field, we can imagine a north pole at that point  it will help us calculate the direction of resultant magnetic field.
So this north pole is referred as the hypothetical north pole because it is not actually there.
