We see that, length (l) = breadth(b)+4 cm. Perimeter of a rectangle = 2(l+b). Therefore, 40= 2((b+4)+b). So, 40 2(2b +4). Then, 40= 4b +8. Move 8 to the other side and change the sign. Then, 40-8 = 4b. So, 32 =4b (or) 4b =32. Therefore b = 8. Hope this helped you!

If b =8cm , then l= b+4 = 8+4= 12cm. b = 8 cm; l = 12 cm
