The perimeter of a square is double that of rectangle. If the perimeter of the square is 120 meter, and length and breadth of the rectangle are in ratio 3:2, find the breadth of the rectangle.

Let the length of rectangle(l) = 3x

Breadth of rectangle(b) = 2x m

Now Perimeter of square = 2 × Perimeter of rectangle

⇒ 120 = 2 × 2(l + b)

⇒ 120 = 4(3x + 2x)

⇒ 30 = 5x

x = 6 m

∴ Length of rectangle = 3x = 3(6) = 18 m

Breadth of rectangle = 2x = 2(6) 12 m

Perimeter of the square=120m

Perimeter of the rectangle=half of 120m=60m

Perimeter of a rectangle=2* l+b. therefore, perimeter of the rectangle=2*3x+2x

Therefore x = 60/(5*2)=60/10=6m

Then, length=3x=3*6=18m

And breadth=2x=2*6=12m

PROOF:-

Perimeter of a rectangle=2*l+b=2*18+12= 60m
