The theme of the story ‘Ranga’s Marriage’ is the conflict between tradition and modernity. Comment

Dear student

Ranga’s marriage is a conflict between traditional thought and modern thought, and it is shown in the form of the acceptance of arranged marriage. Arranged marriage is old fashioned and Ranga strongly believes in this. He also believes that only people who truly love one-another should be married and he strongly opposes marrying someone young. Yet the narrator is bent on disproving him from the very beginning. The conflict occurs when Ranga, against his rationality, falls in love with Ratna, an eleven year old girl and finally gets married to her.
