We are providing answers for few of your questions. For rest, you can refer to the study material of the chapter.

Physics

1.

Consider the following figure of a ray of light passing through a glass slab.

We know that light always travels in straight line , but here we see that while entering and exiting the glass slab , the ray of light bends twice.

Though the angle which the emerging ray of light makes with the normal is same as the angle of incidence, we find that the light is no more travelling in a straight path and the incident ray and emerging ray are parallel to each other.

Here we say that the incident ray has been laterally displaced.

2.

Dispersion of light occurs in prism because light rays deviate while coming out of a prism by an angle. This is called the angle of deviation. Now angle of deviation depends upon the refractive index of the medium of which the prism is composed. Now since different colors in the white light have got different refractive index. thus each color deviates by different angle from the other. Thus, these constituent colors separate out.

Biology

16 i. It is a form of asexual reproduction in which an entirely new organism is formed from a fragment of the parent. It occurs in multicellular organisms, whose body organization is fairly simple such as annelids, starfish, fungi, lichens, and some algae such as spirogyra. The filaments of spirogyra, upon maturation, break into small pieces or fragments, which grow into new individuals.

ii.

Vegetative propagation is a mode of asexual reproduction in plants where the vegetative parts such as roots, leaves, stems, etc. are used to propagate the plants.

Natural vegetative propagation through roots occurs in Asparagus, Albizzia; through leaves occurs in Bryophyllum, ; through modified stem occurs in Onion, potato, ginger, etc.

Artificial vegetative propagation occurs through Cutting (eg Rose), Layering (eg Jasmine), Grafting (eg Sugarcane).

1) we know that refraction occur when the speed of light changes ,when its travles one medium to anothjer , n when its travles from rarer to denser medium then its speed slow down and move bend towards normal thus the distance by which  the light has been displaced after the bending  through a glass slab is called lateral  displacmant

hope that helps u

  1. Refraction occurs when the speed changes when the lights travels from one medium to another medium. If the light travels from a medium to a denser medium, the light slows down and consequently is refracted towards the normal.thus the distance by which the light has been displaced after its binding thru a glass slab is known as lateral displacement If the light travels from one medium to a less dense medium, the speed increases and as a result, the light is refracted away from the normal.
according to Snell's law.....refractive index is the ratio of sine of angle of incidence to the sine of angle of refraction.
  2. The cause of dispersion of light is due to the different speeds by which the different constituents of light travel in a dense medium. It is also caused due to the different wavelengths of the constituents of light, causing different speeds in the dense medium.
  3. the retinal cones of bees are very sensitie.its even sensitive to uv light..

cont of 6...

the cones in chicks are very sensitive to bright light.

7.something that lights up .It is also an old term for letters, words, pages and books that are hand decorated in bright colours, gold and fancy pen work.

8.When electromagnetic radiation passes through matter, most of the radiation continues in its original direction but a small fraction is scattered in other directions. Light that is scattered at the same wavelength as the incoming light is called Rayleigh scattering.

hope it helps.....
