Three small metal lcubes have a mass of 20g each. One cube is of aluminium (density = 2.7g/cm3), one is of brass (density = 8.5g/cm3) and one is of liead (density = 11.4g/cm3). Which cube when drooped into a beaker of water will result in the greatest rise in the water level.

The cube which has the highest volume will displace more water.

You have read that

Density = Mass / Volume

So

Volume = Mass/ Density

Here, the mass is fixed (20 g). So, the factor effecting the volume is density.

More the density, lesser the volume.

Hence, the one with the least volume will displace maximum water.

  • 1

The one with the greatest density, i.e., lead will cause the greatest rise in water level.

  • 3

The one with greatest density which is lead in this case
