Two beakers A and B contain plain water and concentrated sugar solution respectively.Equal number of dried raisins are kept in them for a few hours and taken out.
(a)Explain the reason for the difference in the physical appearance of the raisins which were taken out of the two beakers.
(b)On the basis of above observations categorize the solutions into hypotonic and hypertonic.

Dear student,

 (i) Raisins in beaker B with concentrated sugar solution will get shrink due to exosmosis ( it is a movement of fluid across a semipermeable membrane towards higher solute concentration (outside), while
Raisins in beaker A with plain water will get swollen due to endosmosis (it is a movement of fluid across a semipermeable membrane towards lower solute concentration (inside).

(ii) On the basis of given observation the concentrated sugar solution is hypertonic while, plain water is hypotonic.

a)the physical apppearance is due to osmosis
b)a is hypertonic where b is hypotonic

A) THERE WILL BE A DIFFERENCE IN THE PRESSURE OF BOTH THE SOLUTIONS DUE TO WHICH AFTER THE PROCESS OF OSMOSIS , THEIR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE WILL BE DIFFERENT.
B) A IS HYPERTONIC WHEREAS  B IS HYPOTONIC.
