Under what circumstances is the coalition government formed?

Dear Student,

A coalition government is formed when no single party secures the absolute majority of seats that are required to form the government. In such a situation, two or more parties cooperate and collaborate with each other to form the government. Usually the leader of the largest party in the group of coalition parties will become the leader of the coalition and subsequently the Prime Minister. Examples of coalition government include United Progressive Alliance led by Indian National Congress party and National Democratic Alliance led by Bharatiya Janata Party.
