This is possible in case of an uniform motion and also if the object moves in a straight line such that the direction of the different velocities are same and the displacement is equal to the distance covered.

We know that average speed = Total distance/Total time

and, average velocity = Total displacement/Total time

Magnitude of average velocity and average speed of a moving object is equal only if the object moves in a straight line and in such case the magnitude of displacement is equal to the distance travelled by the body.

Average speed = total distance/time

so if displacement of the body equals to the distance covered in the same time interval then Average speed will be equal to the velocity.
