Hi,

Valency of calcium is +2, thus to balance the charge, two chlorine atoms combine each having -1 charge, a total of -2 charge and hence neutralising the whole charge.

in cacl2

Ca has the valency 2 (atomic number is 20 )and

Cl has the valency 1(atomic number is 17)

thus it gets crossed multiplied and the valency of chlorine goes to Ca and of Ca goes to chlorine and we get the formula CaCl2
