Wells dug to get groundwater often dry up after some time. Why?What can be done to the well to get water from it again?

Wells dry up when the rate of consumption of water from them is higher than the rate of refilling. For refilling, rainwater is the main source. There are two ways by which wells are refilled:

Directly by rain: The rainwater directly gets accumulated in the wells and refills them.

Indirectly by rain: In this the rain water seeps under the ground and increases the water table which in turn increases the water level in the well.

Now, since rain is the main source of refilling of these wells. So, the wells in the areas receiving scanty rainfall dries up more frequently.
